Filipino mythology and folktales offer a wealth of rich symbolism and insight into the cultural values and themes native to the Philippines. Today, many of us are working to decolonize and dig under the surface of Spanish, American, and other colonial influence to find our sacred ancestral roots. In alignment with this purpose, the group will focus on themes from Filipino mythology in a shared discussion to stimulate reflection, group wisdom, and connection in Filipino community.
Please note that this is NOT a therapy group, though members are welcome to share how our stories and discussions impact our minds, hearts, bodies and spirits as we go along.
We will be reading chapters from Tales from the 7,000 Isles by Art R. Guillermo, Ph.D., and Nimfa M. Rodeheaver, Ph.D. The tales are quite short (1-3 pages easy reading) but there is much richness in their telling! Reading materials for this group will be provided at no cost.
